Encouraging each other to “love and good works” is the reason that the author of Hebrews gives us in Hebrews 10:24-25 as to why we should continually meet together as the church. We already know that Church is important, and the author of Hebrews is very clear in this passage of why Church is so important: so that we can encourage each other to love God more and to serve and love people in a Christ-honoring way.
But how exactly do we achieve that in a group setting?
Jesus answers that question perfectly in John 8:31-32 by stating that his true disciples will accept His truth, and that His truth will set us free from the bonds of sin. Jesus’ truth is of course, for us, given as the entire Word of God (the Bible). Therefore, in order to do church correctly and to encourage each other to live more obediently for God, we need to submit to and accept the clear instructive teaching of the Bible. Encouraging each other through God’s truth is the only effective way for us to achieve our goals in Church Community.
This thought is what we’ll be teaching our students this week at FUEL, and I ask that you pray that their hearts would be receptive to God’s truth. Please remember that the single best thing any person can do to improve their walk with Jesus is to be in God’s Word as much as we can. We will continue to stress this foundational truth to our students because we care about their relationship with Jesus. Please stress this principle in your own homes to your student(s)! In this way, we can properly provide our students with the only main resource they need to be saved and walk consistently with God in a loving relationship.
