As a youth pastor and church leader, I will sadly admit that many church goers today are unaware of the Holy Spirit’s existence or leadership of the church. I believe that this is a direct result of Christian individuals and families not knowing the Bible well enough to pass on discipleship to others or the upcoming generation. As a result, it has been my experience (both as a student and now as a student pastor) that most teenagers don’t know who the Holy Spirit is, what He is doing, how He leads the church, or how He is impacting their lives and the world.
The goal of this week is to inform our students of who the Holy Spirit is and what exactly He does. Our hope is that this Biblically rooted understanding of the Holy Spirit will undo some of the damage and neglect of a Christian subculture that has left the Holy Spirit behind.
By the way, just in case some of you think I’m making this stuff up about “the Holy Spirit being left behind” in our churches today, consider this: Francis Chan, a phenomenal church leader, former pastor, and author has an incredible book entitled “Forgotten God”. You can hear and learn more about this book and topic by checking out the YouTube video link here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0a-uQYsFSI
The point is pretty simple: we desperately need the Holy Spirit in our lives to guide us in truth and help us to walk in purity. But first, we need to know who exactly the Holy Spirit is and what He was sent to do. We learn that in God’s Word, and that’s what we’ll be sharing with our students this week.
Please pray that this Wednesday night will be a time where our students can grow closer in their relationship with God as we discuss the Holy Spirit.
